Our History
In 2003, Nina Zak Laddon and Karen Baughman decided that Redondo Beach needed an infusion of culture, in general, and in particular, an art group, a gathering place where artists could socialize and share their art, inspire, and discover relevance with the masters and successful artists living and working in the world today. And so, the Redondo Beach Art Group was conceived, with Nina serving as its first President and Karen as Treasurer. Word spread and RBAG blossomed. Like all good ideas, the group grew organically, starting with a few friends who were ‘graduates’ from Hands on Art, a thriving non-profit taught by parent volunteers, that had been providing art education to Redondo Beach schools for over twenty years.
The Redondo Beach Art Group has participated in shows produced by others, and collaborated with community groups, which includes, but is not limited to, the City of Redondo Beach, South Bay Hands on Art, The Friends of Redondo Beach Arts, Beach Cities Health District, CA 101, Redondo Beach Woman’s Club, Return Engagement, Riviera Village Association, Sharefest, Comedy and Magic Club, and Studio 1613.
In 2008, members of the Redondo Beach Art Group participated in the Public Art Task Force which led to the formation of the first Public Art Commission in 2009.
